Enature Junior Miss Nudist Pageant
You do not need a reason to be naked.But there is a state of mind that can only be reached while being nude.The Enature Junior Miss Nudist Pageant is a competitive art performance that explores the concepts of vernacular nudity and the evolution of vernacular dress in relation to morality, socialization, and aesthetics. As part of this competition, each competitor will produce an original artistic work which focuses on the theme vernacular nudity. The project can take many forms such as poetry, performance art, photography, or textile design. They will then present their work in front of the judges with their nude body acting as an example for their discipline and skill level. There will be a standard of excellence for each contestant and, as a result, no one will win all of the categories. The Enature Junior Miss Nudist Pageant final competition will be held on April 13, 2008 at the Harrah's Resort and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. This performance will be open to all people over the age of 18 who wish to participate. October 2007: Enature Pageant Foundation Inc. (EPD)Enature Pageant Foundation Inc. (EPD) is a non-profit organization that will take responsibility for the artistic direction of this competitive art performance. 'Artistic Direction', in this case, means that EPD will be selecting the contestants, developing guidelines for their artistic works, organizing the competition and providing feedback to contestants on their performances. This event was conceived by Maia Taylor, president of Enature Pageant Foundation Inc. (EPD). Taylor is an award-winning textile designer with extensive experience in graphic arts and performance art. She designs fabrics that are marketed through a small business called Uglydolls LLC. She has been a practice-based artist for over 20 years and has been involved in art education as a professor, mentor and teacher since 1996. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at the University of Nevada- Las Vegas.As described on the "Enature Pageant Booklet", the organization was founded on its mission to promote nudism as an art form. The organization was able to raise money from its members, private donors and from Searle Funds' Foundation via a World Naked Bike Ride fundraiser that advocates nudity for peace and environmental causes. As a result of the success of their fundraiser, EPD was able to hold a group exhibition that showcased all the contestants' works from around the world from June 3–6, 2008 at the Copeland Gallery in Chicago, IL. The exhibition was titled "Enature Pageant: Visual Vernacular" and featured over 35 different pieces from 29 contestants who were selected as finalists out of 80 applicants.The EPD will be holding a second exhibition for this performance on January 17–19 2009 at the Copeland Gallery in Chicago. The title was revealed as "Enature Junior Miss Nudist Pageant".
